Bismarck successfully concluded the war with Denmark in 1864 the subsequent decisive Prussian victory in the Austro-Prussian War of 1866 enabled him to build the North German Confederation which excluded Austria. Right after the defeat of France in the Franco-Prussian War, the German princes proclaimed the founding of the German Empire in 1871.
